If it ain’t broke…
If your current running shoes have kept you healthy and happy to this point in your runs or training, then don’t change them. Try your best to get a new pair of the exact same shoes that have taken you this far.
Try before you buy
Before purchasing your shoes, try them on a take them for a short run. Even if you are getting the same shoes again, don’t assume they’ll fit the same way. During the manufacturing process certain things can change and cause the shoes to fit a little different. It’s important to know that before leaving the store.
Use an expert to check your fit
Have an expert check the fit of your shoes before making a purchase. Especially for runners racking up the milage, it’s important to have about 1/4 to 1/2 inch of space between your longest toe and the end of your shoe. This allows your feet to expand and contract while running, and accounts for any swelling that may occur.
Look for a reason to complain
If your shoes pinch or slip or rub, those are all reasons you don’t want them. Don’t let a salesperson talk you into getting shoes with the idea that they just need to be broken in. Your shoes should feel great before you even leave the store.
